HIV/AIDS Treatment Center
at
St. Albert LeGrand Health Center
Back
The Archdiocese of Douala currently treats over 342,000 patients per year through its 12 health centers. Within the past few years, an increasing number of patients at these units have been treated for AIDS-related opportunistic infections. Upon the recommendation of GTZ (an international NGO), the Archdiocese of Douala has developed plans to construct an HIV/AIDS treatment center at St. Albert LeGrand, the archdiocese's largest health center, which will treat AIDS patients received from all 12 health centers.
The HIV/AIDS treatment center at St. Albert LeGrand will employ a holistic approach to the treatment of AIDS and AIDS-related opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis. The featured service of this center will be voluntary HIV testing and counseling and anti-retroviral therapy for patients unable to afford testing and treatment elsewhere. Additionally, the center will provide nutritional counseling for AIDS patients and supply baby formula to HIV-positive mothers—a critical strategy in reducing mother-to-child transmission.
