Overview

Professor Victor Anomah Ngu, renowned researcher, clinician, and founder of Clinique de l'Espoir, has lived a long life of service to the scientific community and to the people of Cameroon. Appointed Minister of Health in 1984, Ngu crafted the country’s first strategic plan to monitor a burgeoning AIDS epidemic in the late 1980s. Clinique de l'Espoir (translated "Hope Clinic") was founded shortly after Ngu's retirement from government service in 1990. Its primary purpose is to provide treatment for the country’s growing contingent of AIDS patients and conduct vital clinical research aimed at managing the disease.

Located in Yaounde, Professor Ngu and his staff of 5 physicians and 11 nurses and lab technicians now consult over 3,000 patients a year for AIDS-related illnesses. While most patients visiting Clinique de l’Espoir reside in Yaounde, Ngu's patients travel from all regions of Cameroon to receive his unique immunotherapy treatment. Several have arrived at the clinic from as far away as South Africa, Venezuela, and Spain.
